All week I've seen jokes about things you can avoid doing this week, because the world is coming to an end. Most of the jokes involved jokes about avoiding the laundry or paying the bills. Things you normally just dread doing. Budgeting is often up there on everyone's list of things to avoid doing. There were a fews days when I daydreamed about never doing the laundry or worrying about the budget again.
Still sometimes with all the economic turmoil and the talk of the fiscal cliff, it may seem hard to prepare for the different futures that are available. The same basic principles that help you when times are good are going to help you when times are bad. A written budget will help you control your cash flow. Saving will help you build wealth and prepare you for emergencies, and getting out of debt will make it easier to save and manage your money. Although these things often get shoved in among the things you dread doing, taking the time to do them will help you come out ahead, no matter what is going on around you.
