Car insurance is one of those things that many people often forget about. You shop around for a policy initially and sign up for a direct debit and then it is out of sight and out of mind. It is really easy to neglect your auto insurance and home owner's insurance policies and just let them sit there. But your insurance policies often adjust up each year, even if you have no claims or tickets on your record.
In the past I have called and tried to negotiate a lower rate, but often the agents can not offer ou rates as low as the initial rate at a new company. It can be difficult to find a good independent agent that will shop several companies for you, but it may be worth the savings. The other option is to search online and find lower rates. Do not forget to check for discounts through your alumni program.
You should also check to make sure that you insurance company is adjusting your rate as you grow older. There is usually a drop in your rates once you are twenty five. You should also have them check your rate i you have any points or tickets drop off of your record.
