If you have had problems with dealing with your debt in the past, you may have had your account sent to debt collections. You need to deal with the agency to clear up the problem as qucikly as you can. You can be sued by companies when you stop making payments. If the company wins, they can garnish your wages. If you have demonstrated a willingness to work with the company, you may not get to that point.

When you have a debt in collections, you may want to try to settle the debt. You can also try to deal with it by setting up a payment plan with the debt collection agency. You should always ask for proof of the debt before you make payments. You can also try to negotiate away some of your late fees and additional charges. If you are proactive about the situation, you can clear it up rather quickly.
