By , About.com Guide

Definition:

Luxuries are items that are optional. Many people incorrectly define some luxuries as necessities. Cable or satellite television, football tickets, eating out and your iPod are all considered luxuries. Additionally overspending in a necessity category can make a necessity a luxury. One example is buying the $200.00 pair of shoes when the $50.00 ones would work just as well.
